exploring pattern and illustration through visual storytelling

A glimpse into Kaitlin Brophy's creative process

Studying an illustration degree at Camberwell College of Arts in London, my eyes were opened to print and pattern during an internship with a design studio in Stockholm.

Following the internship, I continued making patterns in my spare time and realised how passionate I am about this art form.

My final year at Camberwell is being spent exploring handmade and traditional methods of textile design, with the outcome of experimenting with building spaces and mixing patterns.

Most of my works are painted physically. Especially with my pattern designing, I really value organic textures. I am inspired by nature: the textures, compositions and, most of all, colours.

Colour is so important to my creative process, and I really enjoy experimenting with colour theory through my work.
